Medical care for your creative, intense and unique children.
First Integrative Pediatrician in Tucson Offering Direct Primary Care for Children
You love your child fiercely — and you're not sure the system is built for you.
Maybe you’ve spent an hour in a waiting room only to receive a rushed ten-minute appointment.
Maybe you’ve asked questions about vaccines, antibiotics, nutrition, supplements, or a more natural approach to your child’s health and felt dismissed or judged.
Or maybe you’ve watched your child struggle with eczema, asthma, ADHD, anxiety, autism, digestive issues, frequent illness, or developmental concerns. You’ve followed every recommendation, and still feel like no one is looking at the whole picture.
You don’t want medicine to feel like an assembly line, and you don’t want to feel judged or criticized for what you feel your child needs.
You're not wrong to want more.
The concerns you have are real. The questions you’re asking are valid. And the intuition that there might be another way forward is worth listening to.
As a functional medicine pediatrician in Tucson, Dr. Ana believes parents should be active participants in their child’s healthcare. Whether you’re looking for routine well child visits in Tucson, guidance through a difficult diagnosis, or ongoing support for your family’s health goals, you deserve a physician who takes the time to listen, educate, and partner with you.
Imagine having a pediatrician who actually can offer both worlds - the standard of care and integrative medicine approaches?
Imagine having a pediatrician who offers both the highest standard of medical care and integrative medicine.
Imagine appointments where you never feel rushed, having enough time to ask every question, and working with a doctor who carefully explains risks, benefits, and treatment options so you can confidently make decisions for your family.
Instead of simply treating symptoms, we look deeper.
As a pediatric functional medicine practice in Tucson, we explore factors like nutrition, sleep, gut health, immune function, lifestyle, stress, environmental exposures, and the unique needs of each child. We combine conventional pediatric medicine with evidence-informed integrative therapies to create personalized care plans.
Whether your child needs routine preventive care, support for chronic health concerns, or help navigating pediatric mental health challenges, our goal is always the same.
To help your child flourish while supporting your family every step of the way.
Hi! I'm Dr. Ana Tanase
I became a doctor because medicine is about relationships.
I trained as a physician in Romania, where limited resources taught me an important lesson. More intervention is not always better.
Over the past twenty years, I’ve cared for children in private practice, community health centers, and large multispecialty clinics throughout the United States. While I valued those experiences, I often felt that families deserved something today’s healthcare system rarely provides.
Time. Connection. Honest conversations.
I wanted the freedom to build lasting relationships with my patients without insurance companies determining how long we could talk or what options we could explore together.
That desire led me to additional training in integrative and functional medicine. Today, I combine conventional pediatrics with whole-person care because true health is about more than treating illness.
As an integrative pediatrician in Tucson and functional medicine pediatrician in Tucson, I believe every child deserves personalized care that supports their physical health, emotional well-being, nutrition, lifestyle, and long-term wellness. I welcome thoughtful questions and believe the best healthcare happens when parents and physicians work together as partners.
Whether you’re looking for a newborn pediatrician in Tucson or support for concerns like ADHD, anxiety, autism, digestive issues, or immune health, my goal is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to your child’s unique needs.
I’m also a mother of three, so I understand how overwhelming parenting can feel. You shouldn’t have to navigate those decisions alone. My hope is that every family who walks through our doors feels heard, respected, educated, and supported.

Stories
A Story About Amber (Names have been changed to protect privacy.)
Her plan was beautiful in its simplicity: a healthy, full-term baby, breastfeeding, bonding, and time. But life doesn’t always follow the plan.
Her son Frank arrived a little earlier than expected, with a lower-than-ideal birth weight. After a few days in the hospital, they came home — and the challenges followed. Frank struggled to latch. Weight gain was slow. And Amber, despite her love and dedication, began to feel defeated.
That’s where our work together began.
We focused on the mother-baby ecosystem as a whole. I supported Amber in her choices while layering in additional guidance: lactation support, carefully selected clean formula to supplement, microbiome testing for Frank, and targeted probiotic support. Slowly, things shifted. By two months, Frank was on track with his weight, sleeping more soundly, and thriving. And Amber? She found her footing too — releasing the guilt around not exclusively breastfeeding, making peace with the present moment, and embracing it fully.
Amber has since had her third child. And I have the quiet honor of serving her entire family.
A Story About Elizabeth (Names have been changed to protect privacy.)
Elizabeth came to me with four children — one of whom had been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. Her family had done everything conventional medicine had to offer: ABA therapy, speech therapy, occupational and physical therapy, and medications to help manage aggressive behaviors. The medications brought side effects they couldn’t live with, and eventually, they had to stop.
She came with questions that had gone unanswered for too long. Should she continue vaccinating? Were there supplements that could help? A specific diet? Therapies worth trying? She wasn’t looking for miracles — she was looking for a thoughtful partner to help her navigate what felt like an overwhelming amount of uncertainty.
So we sat down together.
My first visits are 90 minutes for exactly this reason. We took the time to truly understand her son Michael — his history, his patterns, his gut health, his immune function, his risk factors. We reviewed previous tests and prior consults. And from there, we built a plan.
We started with the gut, as is often the case. Routine screening labs revealed nutrient deficiencies. Testing for food sensitivities helped us identify a dietary approach that made sense for Michael’s body. We added foundational gut support supplements and gave it time.
After a few sessions, it became clear we could go deeper. We ordered a comprehensive genomic test — and it opened doors. The results revealed challenges with mitochondrial function, a sensitivity to gluten, and underproduction of melatonin. With that knowledge, we built a targeted protocol: mitochondrial support, specific dietary adjustments, and careful attention to environmental factors that could be quietly working against him.
The changes were not overnight. But they were real.
Michael began saying words he hadn’t said before. His meltdowns became more manageable. He was more present and engaged during ABA sessions. His diagnosis hasn’t changed — and we never promised it would. But his quality of life has. And so has his family’s.
Families often ask, “Can integrative medicine help children with ADHD or anxiety?”
The answer depends on each child.
Integrative medicine is not about replacing conventional care. It is about understanding the whole child, identifying contributing factors, and using evidence-informed therapies alongside traditional medicine whenever appropriate.
The same thoughtful approach can benefit children experiencing ADHD, anxiety, autism, digestive concerns, immune challenges, and many other chronic conditions.
Every child deserves an individualized plan because every child is different.
What Families Are Saying
Membership and Trainings
Why am I paying extra when I already have insurance?
Insurance doesn’t cover everything that your child needs, it doesn’t give you access to the person you want to interact with, services could be disconnected.
I already have a pediatrician, I just need a second opinion.
Great! I’m happy to provide a second opinion consultation and you keep your pediatrician!
My child is healthy. They only need to see a doctor once a year. Why should I pay monthly for a membership?
Concierge medicine is only for the wealthy
This is the old-school medicine! In the old days, people had direct access to their doctor without 3rd parties! Direct Primary Care is more affordable than concierge medicine and it’s designed for your needs and not the needs of a big system.
